Heathrow flooding closes roads to Terminals 2 and 3

Heathrow Airport has told passengers not to travel by road to Terminals 2 and 3 after flooding in the central terminal area caused ongoing road closures in the early hours of Saturday 15 August 2026.

In a statement on its website, the airport said: "Flooding in the central terminal area has resulted in on-going road closures restricting access to Terminals 2 and 3. Passengers travelling to or from either of these terminals today must not travel by road."

Heathrow said it "strongly advised" passengers heading to or from Terminals 2 and 3 to use the Heathrow Express, Elizabeth line or Piccadilly line instead of driving. Anyone who must travel by car has been told to use Park and Ride, head instead to Terminals 4 or 5 and take the free rail link from there, or change onto rail services at a local station.

"Please allow extra time for your journeys," the airport said, adding that its teams "are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible" and apologising for the disruption caused.

The cause of the flooding has not been detailed by the airport. As of this report the road closures remained in place, with Heathrow describing the situation as ongoing and confirming its teams are actively working to fix it. There has been no confirmation of flight cancellations directly linked to the flooding, but anyone whose usual route to Terminal 2 or 3 is by road should expect delays and build in extra time.
