The Piccadilly line will not run between Hammersmith and Heathrow, or between Hammersmith and Uxbridge, from the start of Friday Night Tube on 16 October until the end of service on Sunday 18 October, as Transport for London carries out planned engineering works. A normal Piccadilly line service is due to resume on Monday 19 October.
Heathrow confirmed the closure on its own passenger updates page, stating there will be no Piccadilly line Underground service to or from the airport on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, and no Night Tube service on the Friday night. The airport advised passengers to plan their journey in advance and allow extra time, warning that alternative services "will be busier than usual."
Transport for London's own planned track closures schedule and its Piccadilly line upgrade page confirm the same dates and the same affected section, Hammersmith to Heathrow and Uxbridge. TfL says the closures are part of an ongoing programme of works needed to prepare the line for new trains, alongside routine maintenance, and that further Piccadilly line weekend closures affecting Heathrow are already scheduled for 30 October to 1 November and 20 to 22 November.
Passengers travelling to or from Heathrow this weekend are not without options. Heathrow Express, the Elizabeth line and local and replacement bus services will all run as normal throughout the closure, according to both Heathrow and TfL. The Elizabeth line does have its own separate, unrelated service adjustments on Sunday 18 October, including trains not stopping at Acton Main Line, Hanwell and West Ealing, and a reduced service between Paddington and Maidenhead and at Heathrow Terminal 4, so passengers planning to use that line should also check timings before setting off.
For anyone who has already booked a Piccadilly line journey to or from the airport this weekend, the practical fix is simply to switch to one of the unaffected services. Heathrow Express runs from Paddington to all terminals, while the Elizabeth line connects the airport to central London and beyond, aside from the Sunday adjustments noted above. National Express coaches and local bus and RailAir services are also continuing to operate normally.
The closure is routine, scheduled maintenance rather than a response to any fault or incident, and it does not affect flights, check-in or security at any Heathrow terminal. Its only impact is on how passengers get to and from the airport by Tube over the weekend.
What this means for your journey: if you were planning to use the Piccadilly line to reach Heathrow between Friday night and Sunday, switch to Heathrow Express, the Elizabeth line or a bus service instead, and check our public transport guide at /public-transport/ for route details, or our /taxis/ guide if you would rather avoid public transport altogether this weekend.
