Transport for London will shut the Piccadilly line between Hammersmith and Heathrow Airport, and on its Uxbridge branch, for a full weekend from Friday 20 November through Sunday 22 November, cutting the Tube's direct link to the airport for three days including Friday and Saturday Night Tube service.
TfL's own planned closures page, updated for its Piccadilly line upgrade works, lists the dates plainly: "Fri 20 (Night Tube)-Sun 22 November: Hammersmith to Heathrow and Uxbridge." The closure is part of a wider programme of weekend and some weekday shutdowns TfL is running to prepare the line for new trains and carry out routine maintenance.
A report by travel outlet Deep Arrival, published 1 November and citing TfL's planned track closures document (issued 26 October), confirmed the same dates and detail: the closure affects trains between Hammersmith and Heathrow and the Uxbridge branch, including Friday and Saturday Night Tube. A post on the District Dave's London Underground forum, citing the engineering schedule directly, adds that the shutdown runs from approximately 00:45 on the Friday night through close of traffic on the Sunday, with replacement bus services covering the gap.
Passengers are not left without options. The Elizabeth line and Heathrow Express will continue serving the airport throughout the closure, running from London Paddington. TfL's wider closures list does flag a reduced Elizabeth line service at Heathrow Terminal 4 on the Sunday, so travellers using that terminal should build in extra time. Rail replacement buses are expected to run on the affected Piccadilly line sections, including a route between Hammersmith and Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3, mirroring the pattern used for a similar full Piccadilly line closure over the weekend of 31 October and 1 November.
This is the second time in as many weekends that Heathrow has lost its direct Tube link, after TfL ran a full Piccadilly line shutdown on 30-31 October and 1 November for separate upgrade work. For passengers with early Saturday or Sunday flights in the 20-22 November window, the practical effect is the same either way: no direct Piccadilly line trains to the airport, with the Elizabeth line and Heathrow Express the reliable alternatives from central London.
TfL has not yet published confirmed replacement bus timetables for this specific weekend, so passengers planning to rely on rail-replacement buses should check TfL's status page closer to the date.
What this means for your journey: if you are travelling on 20-22 November, build in extra time by using the Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express instead of the Piccadilly line, or see our public transport guide for full route alternatives into Heathrow.
