Heathrow has cancelled dozens of flights on Sunday 25 October as Storm Boelo, the second named storm of the season, brought gusts of more than 80mph to parts of the UK, a day after Storm Austen disrupted the south west.

Heathrow has "borne the brunt of the disruption" in London, according to the Evening Standard, with short-haul services across the network heavily affected into the evening.

A full list of cancelled flights published by the Mirror shows the disruption running well into Sunday evening at Heathrow, including multiple British Airways rotations to and from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow (among them BA1320, BA1314, BA1312, BA1452, BA1482, BA1468 and BA1450), KLM services to and from Amsterdam Schiphol, Saudia flights to King Khalid International, an American Airlines service to Dallas-Fort Worth, and a Cathay Pacific flight to Xiamen Gaoqi. Knock-on cancellations were also reported at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Belfast International, Belfast City and Birmingham airports on flights connecting with Heathrow.

The Met Office has an amber wind warning covering Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland and the far north of England in force until 9pm on Sunday, sitting inside a wider yellow wind warning. The strongest gusts, in excess of 80mph, were recorded in Argyll and Bute, Snowdonia and the Inner Hebrides, according to the Independent, which reported more than 1,500 flights delayed and over 82,000 properties without power across the UK as the storm moved through.

Heathrow and other UK airports have advised passengers to check their flight status directly with their airline before travelling, rather than assuming a scheduled departure will run. The disruption follows Storm Austen, which brought winds of up to 76mph to the south west of England on Friday and had already caused cancellations at regional airports.

Both storms are part of an unusually active start to the UK storm season, with the Met Office warning that the "danger to life" risk from flying debris and large waves remains in place while warnings are active. Flood warnings have also been issued across Scotland and northern England, and rail operators including Network Rail Scotland have imposed speed restrictions and reported line closures from fallen trees and flooding.

Passengers due to fly from Heathrow on Sunday or Monday should check their airline's app or website for the latest status before setting off, since further knock-on delays are possible as aircraft and crews are repositioned across the network.
